# 7 – Have a weekend away with my best friend from childhood

I have a wonderful friend whom I’ve known since we were 9 years old. Those of you who follow my Dream BIGGER blog will already know a bit about her. I wrote about our friendship in that blog last week. One of the items on my Fab Fifty-Five wish list was to get together with her for a weekend away. We used to do this once a year when our children were little, but in recent years, our get-togethers had become infrequent even though our friendship remained strong.

So, for our birthday this year (we both turn 55 in November), we decided to meet in Toronto and see what mischief we could get up to!

I got to the hotel several hours before she did (she was driving in from northern Ontario). I changed into my pajamas (I love comfy clothes especially in the evening), opened the wine, and a good book. She arrived bearing an assortment of cheese and crackers to go with the wine and we talked into the wee hours of the night.

On Saturday morning, we had appointments for a makeover (more about that in the next blog post.) By the time we walked out of the salon three hours later (yes, at this age, transformation does take time!), we looked and felt amazing. Now it was time for some wicked indulgence. We headed to a nearby restaurant – not for lunch – for decadent, mouthwatering desserts. Mmmmm! And then, shopping!

Check out the fabulous boots I bought …

Fabulously funky!

And then we stopped at … shhh! …

Fabulously fun!

I even checked out a hat store, looking for the perfect one to complement my new look. There was a black fedora that looked stunning … probably should have bought it.

After a mad dash back to the hotel to change, we had a scrumptious dinner at Cayo Coco, a Spanish tapas restaurant.

Here's lookin' at you, kid!

The off to Second City to see “Dreams Really Do Come True! (And Other Lies)”, a hilarious look at life in general. We closed our day with another dessert (three in one day!) and then toddled (or perhaps waddled) back to our hotel just as all the youngsters were stepping out in their slinky outfits for a night of clubbing.

It’s good to be fifty-five when you’ve got a friend to share it with!
