Goldilocks and The Three … Cars!

#34 – Test drive fun cars

After my birthday experience (see #8 on my Fun List), I’ve been hankering to drive some more fun cars. I haven’t owned a car for several years. Although taking the bus is cheaper, and perhaps more environmentally friendly, I’ve decided it’s time to get back into the game. I’ve grown tired of waiting for late buses in miserable weather, and trying to make schedules and routes mesh with my work needs.

So, like everything else I’m doing this year, I’ve turned the search into a fun adventure. I feel a bit like Goldilocks, although instead of trying out chairs and beds, I’m trying on cars for size!

For the last few weekends, my partner and I have been test driving some cars that are a LOT of fun to drive. That’s one of my main criteria for buying a car. It also has to be good on gas, fairly compact in size (preferably with four doors and good trunk space) AND be … pretty! You see, I once had a car that made me sigh with delight every time I looked at it. And I want to have that feeling, and more, with whatever I buy next.

Our first stop was to the Mercedes dealer to look at a … Smart car. Bet you didn’t know that Daimler-Benz makes the diminutive Smart as well as the classy Mercedes! It’s probably the closest I’d ever get to owning a Mercedes.

I’ve been fascinated by the tiny vehicle ever since I first saw one in Europe a decade ago. It’s surprisingly spacious inside and very peppy to drive. And you can’t beat the eye-catching colour combos. Plus you could park two in your garage and still have room for storage!

Then we headed to the Nissan dealership to look at a Juke. It’s got a cool look and I loved all the visibility I had when driving. It’s designed so that the driver sits up higher than in most cars so for short people like me, that’s a bonus! It handled beautifully on the road and had lots of zip.

The final car on our list was a Mini Cooper. For sheer fun, it’s right up there with my all time fave, the BMW Z3. BMW makes the Mini. Need I say more?

Check out this test drive (but imagine me in the driver’s seat) …
