I Love Food … As Long As I Don’t Have To Make It

After over 30 years of meal planning, preparation, cooking and cleaning up, I’m tired of the whole thing. I’m bored by my own recipes (favourite or otherwise) and completely uninspired. I’m happy to just have oatmeal for supper most nights. Mind you, it’s oatmeal smothered in fruit, cinnamon and a multitude of seeds so it is healthy, but still it’s what I have for breakfast. Doesn’t give me much variety in the day!

I’m not sure why I’m so unmotivated unless it’s just years of doing the same thing. In my day job, I’m a motivational coach so you’d think I’d be able to work a little of my own magic on myself. Not!

So in the last few years, I’ve looked for excuses not to cook. I’m happy to eat someone else’s creations (my partner is pretty good in the kitchen), or go out for meals although that gets expensive.  And that’s where my Buddha belly has developed.

In the interest of getting back in shape and back into the kitchen with zest, one of the items on my Fun List is to try a new recipe once a month. It hasn’t happened yet.

However, on the weekend, I heard a radio interview that triggered the first glimmer of inspiration. Janet and Greta Podleski were talking about their latest cookbook, “The Looneyspoons Collection”. Originally from a small town in southern Ontario near where I grew up, this sister duo has published a series of amusing and information-packed cookbooks over the last 15 years. The recipes and sections all have hilarious tongue-in-cheek titles that capture the interest of young and old alike. Since I’m definitely more in the latter category, I decided to head to a bookstore and check it out.

It’s a BIG cookbook, overflowing with yummy (and healthy) recipes, lifestyle tips and nutritional information. I didn’t buy it … yet … but I do intend to go back and get it. I think it just may be the answer to my lacklustre love affair with cooking.

And why didn’t I buy it, you ask? Well, first I have another item to cross off my Fun List. Yes, that would be #16 (guess you’ll just have to go to the Fun List to find out what it is!!!)

  1. I’ve heard of the Looneyspoons Cookbook. Can’t wait to hear what you think. After you complete #16 🙂

And I totally agree. I love the concept of settling in to create a yummy, healthy, filled with love meal. The CONCEPT… LOL!!!
