Challenges, Challenges

The idea for this blog came from my desire to make my 55th birthday more memorable. I wanted to stretch out the celebration for a whole year, challenge myself to try some new things, and inspire myself to enjoy getting older. I also thought that, by writing about it publicly, I’d be motivated to keep going.

So far, so good. Although I will admit that, lately, I’ve been running out of ideas to write about.

Then I discovered a cool short TED video that, in many ways, captures the essence of what I’m trying to do with my life this year. In it, Matt Cutts talks about giving yourself a 30-day challenge. He keeps it simple, just one month, because it doesn’t seem like that long a period of time. Therefore, it’s manageable. However, once you’ve succeeded at one challenge, there’s no reason why you can’t keep going for another 30 days at something else.

He has some great ideas too. Some are simple and others more daunting. It’s all up to you.

One of the points he makes is that the next 30 days of your life are going to pass regardless of what you do with them. So why not make them memorable?

I agree. If not now, then when?

So, what’s your 30-day challenge going to be???
