Me, The Wizard and Lots of Hot Air

One of the first ideas I had for my Fun List was to take a hot air balloon ride. I’ve been fascinated by them for years. In the city where I now live, there is a hot air balloon company. When I lived on the 18th floor of a condo building, I’d watch the brightly coloured balloons float silently past my windows early in the morning and toward sunset during the summer months. They were mesmerizing and I was intrigued.

The closest I’ve ever come was years ago during an event for my children’s school. The students had the opportunity to lift into the air in a balloon that was tethered to the ground. I can’t recall if I went up, but I do remember the sense of excitement at being so close to the enormous balloon. It reminded me of the hot air balloon in the Wizard of Oz.

It’s ballooning season now (May 1 to October 31), so I’ve started investigating how I might cross this item off my Fun List.

Sundance Balloons  flies twice a day, seven days a week. The flight itself takes about an hour. The whole adventure lasts about four hours and ends with a champagne toast. Pretty cool!

The early morning flight starts before sunrise, and at this time of the year, that’s early. I think I’d prefer to do that one, but we’ll see. I’ve got a bit of time to think about it because I need to set the money aside first. However, this too will be one of my summer adventures.

Have you ever had a balloon ride? If so, what were some highlights for you?
